Morning arrived with a slight change in the shade of grey outside the windows, light piercing darkness to permeate the world with a smoky luminance across the drifting snow. The glass panes were crusted with ice, preventing any opportunity for clear vision past their protection, but nobody was peering outside quite yet. The household stayed snug in their beds, the covers maintaining their heat from hours of rest and getting cozier as the servants crept through the rooms to light the fireplaces anew.
The twins were entwined in a knot of skinny boys, Jasdero’s head resting on his brother’s hip as Debitt’s sat on his stomach. Their breathing was slightly squeaky, stuffy noses developed after they had struggled out of their bedding in their sleep. A maid carefully pulled the sheets up over the two, adjusting the comforter to cover them as well as it could before she fluffed their pillows and moving to the hearth.
Tiki and Rhode were asleep in his room, the quilt pulled up to almost cover their heads and suffocate in order to ward off the chill. He was sprawled in the middle of the bed, one arm stretched out across the mattress and the other affectionately holding the petite girl sleeping on his stomach. Her cheek was pressed against his chest, tiny ear listening to his breathing and heartbeat through the warm flannel of his shirt. Both of the sleeping Noah shifted as the door opened, sighing in their sleep and settling back down in slightly different positions.
Turning onto his side, Tiki rolled Rhode over to the mattress, wrapping both arms around her like a living teddy bear and pulling her close. Rhode groaned softly in annoyance, wriggling around a bit to get comfortable before curling up and pressing against him with a soft purr. The fire roared into life quickly enough, the akuma backing carefully out of the room once it had placed new towels in the bathroom for their use.
The house creaked with the weight of the snow and wind beating against its walls, but its occupants did not awaken. Taking comfort in the warmth and safety of home was more than enough to satisfy them for the time being. Until the Earl deemed it was time for them to awaken, they would remain in their cozy slumber, dreaming of candies and sweets and pricey gifts that would await them beneath the Christmas tree.
